If there’s one thing that gets me jazzed it’s the power of the media to alert, inform, educate, and entertain. But I’m particularly fascinated by the way in which these outcomes are able to empower audiences and equip them with the necessary information and analyses to navigate the modern world.
But – the nature of the 24 hour news cycle in the age of the www means that the fair, balanced, and impartiality of newsmakers is under threat.
Enter: satire.
The nature of satire is such that it relies on self-awareness and self-consciousness to operate. Audiences gain pleasure from the knowingness, the humour, the undermining of the status quo.
